(Catechism is ‘learning Christian doctrine by Question and Answer)
1. In John chapter 1, who created the heavens and the earth?
Jesus Christ!
He created all before Incarnation.
Incarnation means God became a man.
That is, The Word(a name of Jesus) became flesh
2. Everyone consists of spirit and flesh.
3. Original Sin :
All have sinned (=Evreyone is guilty) because Adam and Eve disobeyed God.
(They ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil)
4. An actual sin :
Everyone commits sins against God in all one's life.
5. The wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23)
Everyone dies because of one's own sins.
(When we die, our spirit and flesh are separated from our body.
Our spirit died because of disconnecting with God.)=>수정 중
6. The righteous go to the heaven.
But the sinners are cast into hell by judgement.
(The souls of the righteous go into the highest heavens, where they behold the face of God in light and glory, waiting for the full redemption of their bodies.
But the souls of the wicked are cast into hell, where they remain in torments and utter darkness, reserved to the judgement of the great day. )
7. The righteous man is the man without sin.
① Is there anyone without sin?
-There is no one.
(There is no one righteous, not even one. Romans 3:10)
② Is there any righteousness in man?
-There is nothing.
8. Since there is no one righteous, can anyone go to the Heavens?
-There isn't the righteous by oneself.
But anyone who believes in the righteousness of God as his becomes righteous.
9. What is the righteousness of God?
- The Lord Jesus was crucified and died instead of us on the cross with by His vicarious suffering of punishment and His vicarious performing and remained under power of death.
(He endured most grievous torment immediately in his soul, and most painful sufferings in his body, was crucified and died on the cross.)
On the third day he arose from the dead.
These things are all for me.
If someone believes all these things, Jesus's works become his righteousness.
This is God's righteousness.
10. Who is Jesus Christ?
- He is the only begotten son of God.
He is true God and true man.
The Lord Jesus in his human nature united to the divine.
He is the Savior.
(So that two whole, perfect, and distinct natures, the Godhead and the manhood, were inseparably joined together in one person, without conversion, composition, of confusion.
Which person in very God and very man, yet one Christ, the only mediator between God and man.)
(1) Who is Jesus Christ?
- He is God who came into the world with human flesh and to redeem his people from their sins.
He is the Savoir of believers.
(2) What is the meaning of Jesus Christ?
It means 'the Lord's Anointed'.
He takes on the prophet, priest, and king.
And he is God who becomes the prophet, priest, and king of me.
the priest : He takes charge of my sins.
He prays to God to make me forgiven by God so as to make me perfect man morally.
the prophet : He teaches me God and God's will to make my knowledge and wisdom perfectly.
the king : He takes care of me and protects me and rules me eternally to make me govern all things in the universe and all the angels.
11. Who is God?
- God created all things in the universe.
He will judge them and dispense reward and punishment.
And He perserves and governs all the spiritual world and universe alone eternally.
So He is the creator, the judge, the rewarder, the perserver and governor.
12. How many persons are there in the Godhead?
-There is but one only living and true God.
But there are three persons in the Godhead, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
(In the unity of Godhead there be three persons of one substance, power and eternity.
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.
The Father is of none, neither begotten nor proceeding,
the Son is eternally begotten of the Father,
the Holy Ghost eternally proceeding from the Father and the Son.)
13. What is the salvation?
-We can receive the forgiveness and justification by the credit of Jesus Christ.
Salvation is the exemption from the punishment of hell, becoming the child of God and getting the regeneration, sanctification and resurrection.
We can have flesh and spirit which can live forever in heaven.
(1) How can we receive salvation?
- We can receive the salvation by faith, which is absolute grace of God.
(2) What is the order of salvation?
- ① the calling to election of God the Father
->② redemption by the precious blood of Jesus Christ
->③ regeneration by the Holy Spirit and the Holy Scriptures.
->④ santificaton by faith
->⑤ Our salvation is completed by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (by His vicarious redemption)
14. How can we do acts of faith?
- We have to be obedient to the inspired word of God with all our heart and body.
15. Does the regeneration of spirit occur one time or several times?
- It occurs only one time.
