Isaiah 53:1-12
1 Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was stricken.
9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.
11 After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied ; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
We did a sacrament meeting last Lord’s day.
Jesus' blood and flesh symbolize the suffering and death of the Lord.
We must think about Jesus' suffering through the Bible.
The cause of the suffering of the Lord is the love of the God.
The Lord suffered for our sin.
We must think of the love and suffering of the Lord and strive not to sin in the rest of our lives.
Today, we will think of Jesus' suffering through Isaiah 53.
Faith is following the way of the Lord’s walking.
The Lord's life was a path of suffering on the cross. Isaiah 53 is the prophecy written 2,700 years ago.
In other words, Isaiah prophesied about Jesus 700 years before Jesus was born.
People who believe in God's Word are always very few.
For example, Noah made the ark in preparation for the flood.
Noah believed God's Word and did not doubt anything.
He preached the Word of God diligently, but people laughed at him.
And the prophet Jeremiah told Israel to surrender to Babylon because God had decided to abandon Israel.
No one believed his words.
At that time, the Israelites considered him a traitor.
Eventually things happened by Jeremiah's prophecy.
53:1 "Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
53:2 "He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him."
The root of dry land is unseemly.
People who have built farming know this well.
He said that in the text the Lord is like this.
Jesus' appearance was very unattractive.
Jesus is God in the image of man.
God is love.
But people don't know this well.
They have only seen His appearance.
53:3 "He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not."
At first, people were amazed at the miracles of Jesus, but they remembered that He was the son of a carpenter and despised Him.
53:4 "Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him and afflicted.
53:5 "but he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities. the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed."
This is the way of the cross that the Lord has walked on
. Jesus is the firstborn God acknowledges.
A man who has money and power is surrounded by people.
There was no such thing to the Lord.
So, He was despised and forsaken. He carried our burdens instead.
So the way of believing in Jesus is not the way to success.
Our goal is not material blessings or happiness.
The way of the cross is a living for the hope of heaven and a ling for human salvation.
The Lord was crucified among the robbers.
The Lord had no sin. He is the savior of the sinner.
But He was treated as a criminal.
In the Roman amphitheater, martyrs followed Jesus' path.
They were eaten by lions or burned for the sake of following Jesus.
We have to realize the way of the Lord , and we become the ones who follow it.
The way the Lord walked was the way of the cross.
