<Why did God test Job?>
2018.2.11.
JOB 7:17-21 p.768
17.What is man that you make so much of him, that you give him so much attention.
18.that you examine him every morning and test him every moment?
19.Will you never look away from me, or let me alone even for and instant?
20.If I have sinned, what have I done to you, O watcher of men? Why have you made me your target? Have I become a burden to you?
21.Why do you not pardon my offenses and forgive my sins? For I will soon lie down in the dust; you will search for me, but I will be no more."
Job received a very difficult test by God. Job lost all his possessions in one day.
He had seven sons and three daughters.
And he had a thousand sheep and a thousand cows.
He was the richest man in the East.
Job did not lose all his property by his fault.
It was so absurd and a terrible thing.
Think of losing your loved ones in a day. But he did not resent God.
Job's wife also did not grumble at this time.
This was Job's first test.
In the second test, Job lost his health.
Job suffered from a severe skin disease.
Last Sunday, I got the flu and did not finish the sermon properly.
I was so sick that I could not finish the sermon.
I was too painful because of the flu, but how painful Job was!
Job's body was covered with pus and inflammation.
Job was blameless and upright.(JOB 1:1)
He was a man who relied on God.
And he was an honest man before God.
He did not compromise with people to make it easy.
Recently, our country is becoming more and more a socialist country.
People hate shifting.
They like the wide way.
People like to compromise and solve things smoothly.
But the Lord told us to go on a narrow path.
As much as we know God, we fear God.
Job feared God.
He knew how glorious God was.
And he shunned evil.
Job offered burnt offerings every morning for the sins of his children.
Job's faith was very great.
But Job went through a great trial.
God loves righteousness and hates evil.
It is written in the Bible that people are tested because of his greed.
But Job had no reason to be tempted.
The test is a tribulation.
Our sins were borne by Jesus instead of us.
So we are not responsible for our sins.
But for this reason, can we sin as much as we like?
Absolutely not!
Job's friends said that he suffered trials because of his sins.
But Job said to his friends that it was not so.
His three friends did not know God and Job well.
So God reproved them.
God acknowledge that Job is righteous.
We should not judge the situation or person according to the our thinking.
We should not condemn the other person.
Job had a time when he thought he was more righteous than God.
This is the reason Job was tested!
Because God loved Job so much God tested Job to correct Job's misconceptions.
We should not think that God punished him for his sins when we see others’ suffering.
The life and death of man depend on God.
So we must be humble before God.
We should not blame God or condemn others.
We should comfort them and pray for them.
And we have to be patient.
When we are tempted by God, we think of it is the love of God and we must pass the test with patience.
When God gives us suffering,
we should try not to grumble against God, but seek the deep meaning of God of love.
Everyone likes peace and hates trouble.
When God gives us a calm peace, we should not enjoy it, but we have to remember it's a period of preparation for tribulation.
God does not punish us, but gives us a stick of love.
The reason Job was tested was neither for his sins nor for punishment.
The cause of all human sins is self-centered.
Job did not understand why he should be tested.
When a person meets various tests, he should reflects himself.
But he think that punishment is too heavy for sins he have committed.
When we see someone suffered, we often suspect that he has a reason to suffer.
We should not judge someone else by mistake.
God loved Job and tested him to make him more honorable.
Satan cannot impel God.
It is God who tests man.
It is not determined by man.
We must be grateful when we are in peace.
When we are troubled, we have to look at ourselves.
We should not judge others with our narrow knowledge.
We must always be humble and abandon self-centered.
hymn 108 <Jesus, hide me>
Jesus, hide me in Thy power
Lift me from the angry sea
In temptation's evil hour
All my strength and refuge be!
Jesus hide me, Lord, receive me.
